St Clair Beach

This is our trip to the beach today -- fine summer weather as you can see. Pocket was keen on getting in the water, but since it is from the Antartic it was too cold. We saw a crowd of kids in wetsuits swimming though. This beach is a 15 minute bus ride from the center of town. On a map it is on the Pacific side of the Peninsula; the center of the city is on the inside of the harbor.

Pocket was feeling quite the adventurer - running down gigantic sand dunes and playing in the seaweed that looked like a giant octopus. Not a lot of people on the beach today, but we did see the Highlander Rugby team jumping into the cold water in just their underwear as part of some team-building-we-are-tough-men sort of ritual. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

So St Clair beach & further along St Kilda beach were fun but cold and wet. Getting the bus back was sort of difficult too. We had to wait at a remote stop for a while -- it was right next to the campervan lot & the tent camping area. People love their campervans here -- everyone rents one to see the country. The tent camping was just odd -- just a green space in the middle of a very modest neighborhood next to a small grocery shop. Not sure how great the camping was; cheap I suppose. Thankfully we are house-sitting and in 2 days we'll have our apartment so no camping in random parks for us.

Sounds like fun at the beach---great pics!

I hope you packed a sunblock with high SPF---your legs look like they're starting to burn. :-)
