So I thought I knew what certain words meant in English, but some words take a different twist here in New Zealand. Here are a few I can think of related to food:
Tea - a drink right? Well not quite, when "evening" is placed before the word "tea" as in "evening tea" the combination of the words mean dinner. What did we have for evening tea tonight? Spaghetti.
Pudding - In the States pudding is a sweet, creamy dessert. Not so in New Zealand and other Commonwealth countries . . . here it means any type of dessert. Are we having ice cream for pudding?
Yes we are having biscuits! Biscuits would be an appropriate dessert here because in New Zealand biscuits are what we call cookies! When we tried to explain what biscuits are in the States our friends just looked at us and asked why we would want to eat something like that.
Supper is another funny one as it can mean a snack time . . . as in stay after church for supper.

Now in the spirit of international relations and all that you should teach the people in New Zealand about lovely American/Wisconsinian words like bubbler and Tyme machine. :)
