Sunday morning the weather was agreeable so the kayak guide took us onto the terminal lake of the Mueller Glacier (all these glaciers are really close to Mount Cook). The weather was cloudy but not too cold and eventually the sun did come out a little. It was good we had a clear day on Saturday otherwise we wouldn't have seen the tops of the mountains at all since it was so cloudy on Sunday.

guide's kayak back from the water. Being a former kayak guide himself, Dan tried to go easy on the guide when she made us carry our own double kayaks back from the water. Ugh! Those are some very heavy boats.
This is the lake we kayaked on. The Mueller Glacier is at the far side of the lake and behind that mountain of gravel on the left.
And here we are in our double. The water was icy-cold and milky white with all the minerals in it. We got to go with our friends from the physio school, Lexie, Craig and Katie, which made it much more fun.
There's the glacier in front of me with all that gravel on top of it. This lake unfortunately had almost no icebergs on it. We kept hearing the glacier cracking and ice popping but didn't see anything crack off into the water. The annoying thing was the guide kept going on and on about how last week was so incredible with icebergs cracking off in front of them and ...blah, blah, blah. We wanted to ask for a refund.
Here's a clearer photo of Mueller Lake with the glacier visible (sort of) in the background. It was a fun kayak even if we didn't see any glacier calving (when the ice breaks off). I think we all wished it was just a bit more exciting. We are definitely getting spoiled here with all the nature we can see within a day's drive.
