Weekend in Queenstown

Last Friday, May 29th, we were eating lunch & looking out at the ever-present rain. It has been rainy & cold here for almost all of May. We decided we couldn't take it anymore and within an hour were in the car headed towards Queenstown. Queenstown is a resort mountain town about 3 hours drive west from Dunedin and whenever we are there, it is sunny.

And it was sunny in Queenstown - look how happy Dan is to get away from Dunedin. They have an outdoor arts & crafts market every Saturday and lots of shops in town for browsing. The cafes even have free wi-fi -- it's almost like being back home (sorry, Dunedenites).

It's almost ski season here - the mountains have snowy tops now. I love the contrast of the snowy mountains with the palm like trees in this picture.

The weather was cold but sunny this weekend. We didn't do too much...it was nice just to get away for a few days.

Queenstown is so pretty. I can see why everyone has a vacation house here even if the prices are outrageous.
