More pictures of our fun afternoon at the Taieri A and P show.
We saw a lot of these hairy Galloway cattle at the show. They seem popular here, makes sense as they are an ancient breed from Scotland. I love how all the champion animals have big ribbons around their necks or sometimes around their midsection. I can't imagine wrestling a ribbon around a big guy like this one who doesn't seem to like people around his horns.
Although we got to the show later in the day, we were in time to see the Grand Parade of all the champion animals including this creamy white Galloway. Of course his owner had to dress the part.
Why, yes, that is a bagpipe marching band serenading the winners lined up after the parade. What else would you expect?
Surprisingly, there were few sheep at this show. The ones that were there were very cute with colorful ribbons indicating their champion status. This little boy on the end was walking around everywhere with his show sheep. He couldn't have been more than 4 years old.
We saw a lot of horse jumping events at the show. It was great to watch; they all did very well, no crashes or falls.
These were the only alpacas at the show. They aren't very popular in NZ yet. Look at that little baby one; his owner said he was born just 2 days before the show.

Dan trying to snuggle up to a baby Galloway without inciting it's mother to use her substantial horns. The baby one had such soft, wavy hair.
Besides the typical pony rides, they also offered mini-horse cart rides to the kids. We didn't see anyone riding this cart while we were there, but it sure looked fun. Not so sure how much fun the mini horse had carting people around. It was a very small horse.
