Penguins at Victory Beach

While at Victory Beach we saw a lot of penguin tracks like these. The yellow-eyed penguins come ashore in the evenings and walk up the beach to the grassy sand dunes where they sleep.

They sort of look like dinosaur tracks.

We got to see some penguins coming ashore. Occasionally one won't come up far enough, and the waves take them back into the water.

They also seem to wait for each other before marching back to the sand dunes.

We had to stay very, very still and quiet since the penguins get scared easily and will run back to the water.
Here we are staying low and still watching the penguins. We were going to hide in the sand dunes but didn't want to disturb any penguin nests. Once the sun went down it got chilly fast on the beach, hence the hats.
