Maori Beach

The first day of the Rakiura Track follows the coastline, & we had incredible views like this one.

Eventually we got to Maori Beach and took a lunch break. With all the extra clothes we brought along in case of rain or cold, our packs felt very heavy. None of us were really used to hiking with packs, at least not recently.

Maori Beach was a treasure trove of conch shells. They were everywhere! We found so many in all different shapes and sizes. We only took a couple along but lined these up for a picture just to help us remember. I know it's hard to tell from the picture, but these were about 4-5 inches long and maybe 2-3 inches wide so not terribly big.
