In order to make me feel young by comparison, on my 30th birthday (last Saturday in case anyone forgot to send a card) Dan and I rode the historic Taieri Gorge Railway. It starts in Dunedin and continues though some very lovely, wild land following the Taieri River.
This is a view of the gorge -- all very green right now. The yellow flowers you see are actually gorse and broom, invasive species brought by settlers to remind them of Briton. Of course, it took over.
The train goes over a lot of these bridges or viaducts and through very narrow tunnels.
It threatened rain all day (which made the indoor train ride more appealing) so Dan got to show off his new merino wool hoodie. If he gets wool jeans, he will officially become a sheep.
The train also went pass racing horse farms, and there were foals all over the place.
And lots of sheep with large lambs. Check out the fiercely trimmed hedge at the back of the pasture. Can't let those trees get out of hand.
