Central Otago Rail Trail

Dan & I did part of the Rail Trail this Saturday. The weather was chilly & windy but dry - a nice Fall day. We road from Hyde to Daisybank and back which was about 22 km.

The area is fairly rugged here with all sorts of interesting rock formations. It was the main area of gold-mining in New Zealand in the 19th century.

This is where we stayed the night. Just kidding. The wind can get fierce here; people occasionally have to be rescued from the rail trail due to the wind. Huts like these are along the trail to provide some shelter.

Not sure what kind of trees these are; just thought they looked interesting & colorful.

Behind this cute couple you can see the snow caps of the Kakanui mountains.
